How to Win as the Shooter

When a crazy shooting experience assigns you the shooter, the round is no longer a hiding contest. You are the 1 in 1 vs All. Up to eleven other players are somewhere on a small western station, and they have already read — or they should have — how to survive. Your counter is a sweep order, not a highlight reel down the railroad. This page is that order. The shooter role card is the short version.

If the HUD did not give you the hunter job, you are throwing by playing this way. Switch to how to survive.

Sweep order (commit it)

  1. Porch and lantern. Spawn-adjacent, roof beams, yellow cone of light. Survivors who froze in place are here. Pre-aim head height for R15, not the floor. Check both sides of each post. The lantern hides people in glare if you are looking from outside; step under the roof so your eye adjusts.
  2. Wooden interiors. Doors, lofts, the alley between yellow timber buildings visible in the overview shot. Clear one building fully before you peek the next. A half-clear is how someone sits on the stairs you skipped.
  3. Railroad ditch. Walk the line but do not stand on the sleepers. Stand offset so a survivor who peeks the vanishing point does not have a free silhouette of you against the mesa.
  4. Cactus flats. Fast check only. Anyone still here is either new or bait. Do not spend a magazine proving a cactus is empty.
  5. Mesa last. High, slow to rotate back from, and the place survivors want you to visit. If you go there first, the porch restocks behind you.

That list is also the maps tier list read in reverse: you attack high-value survivor cover first.

Aim and pacing

This is not a 30-player FFA. You can take the extra half-second to pre-aim a door. Spray is for the moment you see motion, not for celebrating. If ping spikes (this place has shown it), stop jump-peeking. Jump-peeks on 200 ms plus latency are how you eat a return shot you never saw. Play hold-angle, then swing.

Crosshair at head height in interiors. Crosshair at torso on the rails because people crouch in the ditch. Controls if your sensitivity is a 360 every time you look at the lantern.

Information you should steal

  • Kill feed. A death on the porch tells you whether to stay or rotate. Two porch kills means interiors next, not mesa.
  • Sound. Wood is loud. If you hear running on boards, you are close. If you hear nothing, someone is crouched or already gone.
  • Chat. Survivors love to type. Let them. Do not type yourself except to lie about your location, and even that is optional. Time in chat is time not clearing.
  • Cosmetics. Neon packages through the lantern glow are free kills. Thank them later on loadouts.

Common shooter mistakes

  • Mesa first. It looks like a power position. It is a trap that donates the station back to the lobby.
  • Tunneling one survivor into cactus. The other nine are restocking the porch.
  • Standing in the lantern cone. You silhouette too. The light is a tool from underneath, a liability from outside.
  • Reloading on the rails. Reload in a doorway.
  • Assuming MM2 rules. There is no confirmed sheriff to hunt you. Play 1vAll until the HUD says otherwise. See how to play.

If survivors start fighting back

Only relevant if a patch puts guns in their hands. Then you are still favored if you hold doors. Do not take a long-range duel on the rails against someone who already has the angle. Close the distance through interiors. The role tier list still ranks shooter as the round’s tempo-setter because the hunter chooses where the next fight is.

After a wipe or a fail

If you wiped, note which landmark had the last two people. If you failed, you probably skipped a building or visited the mesa early. Spectate the remaining survivors if the UI lets you; they will sit in the exact hiding spots this wiki lists. Then queue. Short rounds mean your next hunt is a minute away.

Do not buy a fake gamepass from chat. None are listed. Do not paste a silent-aim script because a video promised you clips — read scripts safety. The skill here is the sweep, and the sweep is free.

Play the station like a house: porch, rooms, yard, hill last. That is how you win as the shooter.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Where should I check first as the shooter?

The porch and lantern, then wooden interiors. Mesa last. Full order is on this page and the maps tier list.

Should I camp the railroad?

Use it as a sightline, do not live on it. Survivors who stay on the rails are already easy; the rest are in buildings.

What if I cannot find anyone?

You skipped an interior or they relocated once. Reclear buildings before you climb the mesa. See hiding spots.

Are scripts required to win?

No. Sweep order beats a noisy hub. Read scripts safety if you were about to paste one.
